AAIB appoints Islam Gomaa as head of technology #

Arab African International Bank (AAIB) has appointed Islam Gomaa as its new head of technology, the Cairo-based bank announced.

Gomaa has more than two decades of experience in information technology, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and technology operations. He most recently served as chief information officer at Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait’s Egypt operations.

Shortly after the appointment was confirmed, Gomaa wrote on LinkedIn that he plans to work with AAIB’s executive leadership to advance the bank’s digital transformation, accelerate strategic technology initiatives, and develop infrastructure for secure, next-generation banking services, according to Fintech Gate.

AAIB said the hire is intended to support its technology modernisation plans. Egyptian banks have broadly increased investment in digital infrastructure in recent years, expanding digital services and working to improve operational efficiency.

AAIB was founded in 1964 as Egypt’s first multinational bank, established by special law as a joint venture between the Central Bank of Egypt and the Kuwait Investment Authority, each holding roughly 49%. The bank has identified digital innovation and customer service as priorities in its long-term strategy.

Gomaa’s appointment comes as banks across the Middle East and North Africa face rising cybersecurity risks and growing customer demand for digital services.
