Paris startup Outline raises $3M pre-seed to automate finance workflows with AI agents #
Outline, a Paris-based fintech founded by two alumni of French healthtech unicorn Alan, has closed a $3 million pre-seed round to build AI agents that automate financial planning and analysis (FP&A) workflows. Finance teams today spend up to four working days a month manually rebuilding spreadsheet forecasts.
Founders Future led the round, joined by early-stage funds 100in and Newschool, along with finance-industry angels: Bruno Vaffier, chief executive of accounting software group Cegid; Antoine Lizée, AI lead at Alan; and Raphaël Nahum, finance director at Pennylane.
The company was founded in June 2026 by Antoine de Mereuil, a serial entrepreneur, and Hubert Jaouen, an engineer trained at École des Ponts and the London School of Economics. Jaouen built the financial forecasting infrastructure that helped take Spotify public before joining Alan, where he oversaw a significant portion of the company’s financial planning. The two co-founders met at Alan and identified what they describe as a structural blind spot: while AI tools have reshaped sales, customer support, and engineering workflows, finance teams have largely been left with spreadsheets and Excel plug-ins.
According to de Mereuil, the finance function demands a level of precision that general-purpose AI tools cannot yet reliably deliver. Outline’s approach uses purpose-built AI agents that can interrogate financial data, run forecasts, and answer strategic questions with auditability, producing outputs confident enough for CFOs to act on and share with boards.
Louis Sautet, a partner at Founders Future, said in the company’s announcement that “Hubert and Antoine bring the dual product-and-finance culture that this market requires,” citing the team’s combination of engineering depth and first-hand FP&A experience.
The startup already has ten paying design partners on the platform, with ten more expected to onboard shortly, according to Tech Funding News, which reported the deal exclusively. Outline says France’s push toward mandatory e-invoicing is increasing pressure on CFOs to modernise their tooling, adding a near-term domestic demand driver to the longer-term market opportunity.
The funding will go primarily to hiring across product and go-to-market functions as Outline moves to expand from France into broader European markets and eventually the United States.
