OpenAI Offers UK Banks Access to Cyber AI Model #
OpenAI has offered nine major UK banks access to GPT-5.5 Cyber, its cybersecurity-focused AI tool, after Anthropic continued to restrict access to its rival Mythos model for non-US lenders. Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC and Nationwide are among the banks expected to get access, while NatWest and Santander already have agreements with OpenAI.
The development matters because banks and regulators are assessing how advanced AI models could expose or help defend against software vulnerabilities in critical financial infrastructure. Access remains limited to vetted users, reflecting the balance between giving defenders stronger tools and reducing the risk of misuse.
