CMA Targets Apple and Google App Payment Rules
CMA Targets Apple and Google App Payment Rules #
The UK Competition and Markets Authority is consulting on new conduct requirements for Apple and Google under the digital markets regime. The proposed measures would allow app developers to direct users to payment options outside the companies’ app store systems, with the CMA also considering principles to keep any steering-related fees fair and reasonable
The consultation also covers possible access to Apple’s NFC functionality on iOS, which could let fintechs and other developers support contactless payments and related services directly inside their own apps. The move matters because it could affect app store economics, developer costs and competition in mobile payments, digital wallets and other contactless services.
