Google Play Expands Billing Choice and Lowers Fees #
Google Play is rolling out a new billing choice programme that lets eligible developers offer alternative billing systems or link users to their own websites for purchases, alongside Google Play billing. The initial rollout covers digital services and content offered to users in the UK and European Economic Area, alongside existing programmes in the US
Google is also separating its service fee from its billing fee, starting June 30, 2026 in the US, UK and EEA. The update matters because it changes how developers manage digital commerce on Android, giving them more payment flexibility while keeping Google Play fees in place for distribution, platform services and, where used, billing infrastructure.
