Android Adds Fake Call Detection for Spoofed Contacts #
Android is rolling out fake call detection globally to Android 12+ devices through Phone by Google, starting with Pixel devices. The feature checks whether a call that appears to come from a saved contact is actually coming from that contact’s device, using a silent, encrypted RCS-based confirmation between devices
The update matters because scammers are increasingly combining caller ID spoofing with AI voice cloning to impersonate family members, employers or other trusted contacts. If the verification signal is missing and the real device confirms it is not making a call, Android shows a warning advising the user to hang up.
