Apple Pay Rumored to Launch in India #

Apple Pay is gradually moving closer to an official launch in India, though regulatory approvals remain a key hurdle before the service can go live. According to industry sources cited in the report, Apple is actively working with Indian banks, regulators, and global card networks, aiming to introduce Apple Pay in the country within the year.

Once launched, Apple Pay is expected to include the Tap to Pay on iPhone feature, which would allow users to make contactless payments at NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminals. However, this rollout depends on Apple successfully negotiating transaction fees with major card issuers for access to its payment gateway.

Despite India’s digital payments landscape being dominated by UPI, Apple is reportedly not planning to seek third-party app provider approval for UPI integration in the near future. Instead, Apple Pay has so far been limited to international use cases, with providers like Cashfree Payments and Razorpay integrating the service last year to support cross-border payments for Indian merchants.
