Barcelona’s Kabilio Closes €10M Round to Launch AI Agent for Accounting Firms #
Barcelona-based AI startup Kabilio has secured €10 million in a funding round led by Picus Capital and Visionaries Club, with participation from CDTI, Spain’s public agency for technology and innovation. The raise brings the company’s total funding to €14 million, following a €4 million pre-seed round backed by the same lead investors approximately one year ago.
Kabilio builds software designed to reduce administrative work for accounting practices and the small businesses they serve. Its platform reads incoming invoices, suggests how to categorise and book them, reconciles bank transactions, and flags discrepancies for review, with the accountant approving each step. The company says the system cuts bookkeeping and reconciliation time for accountants by around 60%.
The business has grown sharply since the pre-seed. Customer numbers have climbed from roughly 100 accounting firms a year ago to nearly 500, and headcount has expanded to 80 people. According to co-founder and co-CEO Jose Ojeda, neither lead investor needed much persuading: both approached Kabilio after observing its customer growth, without the company running a formal fundraising process.
The fresh capital will primarily fund development of a full AI agent, a step beyond the platform’s current automation. The agent is designed to handle tasks autonomously from start to finish, collecting invoices and bank statements from email inboxes, reconciling accounts, checking for gaps, and even contacting clients directly via email or WhatsApp to request missing documents. A beta is under way with several firms already testing the tool. Accountants retain control by setting per-client permissions that govern what the agent may do independently.
Alongside the agent, Kabilio is broadening the platform to cover accounting firms’ clients. Kabilio Empresas, launched in September, allows small businesses to raise invoices, connect bank accounts, and track cash flow within the same system their accountant uses, giving practices current visibility into client finances rather than a quarterly document scramble. The company intends to extend the AI agent to those businesses as well, with capabilities such as automated invoice sending, payment chasing, and routine tax queries, all accessed through the accountant as the gatekeeper.
Co-founder and co-CEO Álex Valls noted that the quality of an agent’s output depends entirely on the data it can access, a problem the integrated client platform is built to solve.
