Goldman Sachs joins EquiLend’s 1Source shared ledger for securities finance #

EquiLend has added Goldman Sachs to 1Source, its distributed ledger technology platform for securities finance. Goldman joins BNY and National Bank of Canada on the platform; according to Ledger Insights, both institutions began transmitting live transactions onto 1Source approximately a year ago, in October 2025. Goldman is also a minority shareholder in EquiLend.

EquiLend’s conventional system already records securities lending trades, but post-trade changes create reconciliation problems. Rates on securities lending contracts fluctuate frequently, and securities are sometimes reallocated or returned when underlying stock is sold. Under the current model, each counterparty records those changes separately, creating opportunities for mismatches that result in trade breaks, a problem that has grown more acute since markets shifted to T+1 settlement. 1Source addresses this by maintaining a single shared private ledger of agreed transactions and changes, removing the need for manual reconciliation. The platform runs on Digital Asset’s Canton technology, a private permissioned network.

EquiLend describes 1Source as a “single, golden source of truth” for securities lending and financing transactions. The company says the platform directly improves participants’ P&L by eliminating accrual errors, cutting third-party comparison fees, and improving settlement rates.

Rich Grossi, CEO of EquiLend, said the firm was “excited to welcome Goldman Sachs, one of the industry’s largest borrowers” to the platform, adding that Goldman’s involvement would “drive greater platform benefit by reducing costs and increasing operational efficiency across the community of participants.”

EquiLend said additional counterparties are currently in the process of adopting 1Source, noting that network value grows as more firms move actual transaction volume onto the shared ledger. The announcement did not specify how many business lines or markets Goldman will bring onto the platform, or the extent to which its participation will drive adoption by other firms.
