Swift Veteran Lázaro Campos Takes Helm of OpenTrade Board as Stablecoin Yield Platform Crosses $1 Billion in Annual Volume #

London-based stablecoin yield infrastructure company OpenTrade has named Lázaro Campos, the former chief executive of global financial messaging network Swift, as chairman of its board of directors, the company announced on Friday.

Campos spent 25 years at Swift, joining in 1987 and rising through a series of senior roles before being appointed CEO in April 2007. Under his leadership, Swift nearly doubled its transaction volumes while cutting prices by half. He stepped down from the CEO role in 2012. According to CoinDesk, he has also served on several Bank of England boards, with experience spanning commercial banking and financial regulation.

The appointment comes roughly six months after OpenTrade closed a $17 million funding round in May 2026, led by Mercury Fund and Notion Capital, which brought its total capital raised to $32 million. The company, founded in 2023, provides infrastructure that allows fintechs, exchanges, and neobanks to offer USD- and EUR-denominated stablecoin yields backed by real-world assets, without having to build their own investment, custody, or operational systems in-house.

Alongside the board announcement, OpenTrade reported growth figures: the platform processed more than $1 billion in transaction volume over the past twelve months, while total value locked has climbed to $300 million, up from approximately $200 million in May. The company has also expanded its product scope beyond its original plug-and-play model, adding a permissionless protocol layer and a vault curation service for institutional strategies across both real-world and on-chain assets.

According to Crypto Briefing, Campos brings the kind of credibility that OpenTrade’s target customers, financial institutions focused on governance, compliance, and counterparty trust, tend to require. He spent two decades leading the network that processes cross-border payments for more than 11,000 financial institutions worldwide, a background that aligns with the institutional clients OpenTrade is targeting.

OpenTrade has previously partnered with Figment on a stablecoin yield product and has been cited as a deployment partner in structured credit facilities targeting institutional capital. The company said the new board leadership is intended to support its continued expansion as stablecoin infrastructure matures and regulatory frameworks develop in key markets.
