ZEN.COM Brings Pay by Bank to Nine European Markets Through Mastercard Open Finance in Single Integration #

European fintech ZEN.COM has rolled out Pay by Bank services across nine European markets through a partnership with Mastercard Open Finance. The service went live across all nine countries in September 2026, letting customers pay directly from their bank accounts without going through card-based payment rails.

The rollout covers two use cases: merchant payment acceptance at checkout and digital wallet top-ups within the ZEN.COM app. Both are now available in Germany, Austria, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, and Lithuania, according to the company.

ZEN.COM, licensed as an electronic money institution under the Bank of Lithuania’s supervision, serves more than 1.5 million consumers and over 10,000 businesses across 33 markets. The nine-country rollout was delivered through a single technical integration with Mastercard’s European payment platform. Chief growth officer Łukasz Neska pointed to that single integration as central to the approach.

“Pay by Bank is becoming one of the fastest-growing ways to pay in Europe, and with Mastercard Open Finance we brought it live across nine markets through a single integration,” Neska said, describing the service as a direct and cost-effective alternative to traditional payment methods for merchants and consumers.

Pay by Bank uses open banking infrastructure to initiate account-to-account transfers in real time. For merchants, the appeal is lower per-transaction costs and simpler reconciliation compared with card schemes. Consumers pay directly from their bank accounts without entering card details.

ZEN.COM combines payment acceptance with money management, cashback rewards, and purchase protection on a single platform. The Pay by Bank rollout is part of what the company calls its “Pay Better” strategy. Card payments on the platform rose 84 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of 2026, and the company has been expanding its payment method options alongside that growth.

Merchant acceptance and wallet top-up functionality are live for all eligible ZEN.COM merchants and users in the nine countries. The company has not announced plans or a timeline for extending Pay by Bank to additional markets.
