Wealthsimple Seals C$425 Million Round at C$13.8 Billion Valuation as GIC Returns to Lead Banking Expansion #

Toronto fintech Wealthsimple has secured a financing round of up to C$425 million (roughly US$302 million), lifting its post-money valuation to C$13.8 billion (about US$9.8 billion), a 38% increase from the C$10 billion valuation it carried one year ago. That puts it among Canada’s most valuable privately held technology companies.

Singapore’s GIC sovereign wealth fund is leading the round, returning to the cap table after co-leading the company’s C$750 million Series E in October 2025. Existing backers Power Corporation of Canada, its subsidiary IGM Financial, ICONIQ, CPP Investments, and Montréal-based Inovia Capital are all participating. Power Corporation and IGM Financial each contributed amounts sufficient to preserve their existing ownership stakes, according to The Globe and Mail.

The deal is split into two tranches: C$300 million in fresh primary equity, earmarked for accelerating Wealthsimple’s product roadmap and strengthening its technology infrastructure, and a secondary component of up to C$125 million through which the same investors will purchase shares from employees, giving staff a liquidity event.

“This gives us a balance sheet that reflects the ambition of the business,” chief executive and co-founder Michael Katchen said in an interview with The Globe and Mail. In a separate statement, Katchen framed the raise as evidence that long-standing partners are doubling down on the company’s mission to become the platform where every Canadian manages their full financial life.

The company has grown substantially since its previous raise. Assets under administration reached C$169.2 billion as of September 30, up from C$100 billion at the time of the Series E. The platform now serves more than four million individual Canadians and over 30,000 businesses, and the company describes itself as profitable. In the second quarter of 2026, new chequing account openings exceeded new investment account openings for the first time, a sign that Wealthsimple’s push into everyday banking is gaining traction against Canada’s established lenders.

Over the past year Wealthsimple has rolled out more than 50 new products, including credit cards, business accounts, and children’s accounts. Proceeds from the latest round will fund continued development across investing, spending, chequing, trading, and business banking.
