Clearstream Expands DLT-Powered Fund Tokenisation Platform, Citing 50% Cost Reductions for Clients #
Clearstream, the post-trade arm of Deutsche Börse Group, is expanding its Digital Transfer Agency (Digital TA) solution, a blockchain-enabled platform that lets asset managers and asset servicers issue and manage tokenised fund shares over distributed ledger technology.
Digital TA is built on FundsDLT, a Luxembourg-based blockchain fintech that Deutsche Börse Group acquired and has since fully embedded within Clearstream Fund Services. The solution is now being rolled out to additional markets and more deeply integrated into Clearstream’s established post-trade infrastructure.
Delivered as a software-as-a-service product, Digital TA automates the core responsibilities of a traditional transfer agent, including fund share issuance, investor ownership tracking, know-your-customer and anti-money laundering workflows, and corporate actions, all backed by distributed ledger technology. Clearstream says the architecture produces a single, real-time, fully auditable investor register, reducing manual processes and simplifying compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
The firm reports that the solution has already cut operational costs by up to 50% for clients across several countries, and that more than €11 billion in on-chain assets have been processed through the platform to date.
Olivier Portenseigne, Head of Digital for Clearstream Fund Services, said that folding FundsDLT’s proven technology into Clearstream’s wider market infrastructure adds the “scale, security and regulatory robustness of global market infrastructure,” while allowing clients to migrate away from legacy systems at whatever pace suits them.
The expansion aims to support broader adoption of fully tokenised fund structures. By digitising investor registers and ownership records first, the Digital TA layer makes those records programmable and ready for future tokenised distribution without requiring firms to overhaul their current operating models at once.
The announcement follows other recent digital fund-services work at Clearstream. The firm earlier partnered with Italian asset manager Azimut to pilot a private-market fund digitisation solution and launched an enhanced Vestima Digital offering for wealth managers seeking access to private market strategies.
