Wise Group, the London-listed global money transfer company, has named Barak Eilam, the former chief executive of enterprise software firm NICE, as its next board chair. Eilam joins immediately as a non-executive director and chair designate.
Eilam will formally take the chair role from David Wells, who has held the position since 2021 and joined Wise’s board as a non-executive director in 2019. Wells will step down as chair and as a director in April 2027, giving Eilam roughly six months to familiarise himself with the business before assuming full responsibility.
Eilam brings nearly three decades of experience in enterprise technology to the role. He joined NICE in 1999 as an engineer and rose through senior positions in R&D, product management, and sales, including a stint as President of NICE Americas, before becoming chief executive in 2014. During his decade-long tenure, he oversaw NICE’s shift into cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics before stepping down at the end of 2024. He currently serves on the boards of FactSet, CCC Intelligent Solutions, and Similarweb, and previously sat on the board of Payoneer.
In addition to the chair role, Eilam will head Wise’s Nominating and Corporate Governance committee.
Wise processed more than $240 billion in cross-border transactions in its most recent fiscal year and counts close to 19 million customers worldwide. The company describes itself as “a global technology company building the best way to move and manage the world’s money.” It listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2021 via a direct listing and has since become a dual-listed firm.
Wells, who led the company through its public market debut, is expected to remain in his current role through the handover period into next spring. The company gave no indication of further board changes alongside the announcement.
