SBS and NVIDIA launch generative AI platform for core banking, keeping customer data on-premises #

French banking software company SBS has introduced what it calls the world’s first sovereign AI platform built for core banking, allowing financial institutions to run generative and agentic AI at scale while keeping customer and transaction data within their own infrastructure.

The SBS AI Foundation, developed with NVIDIA, runs on NVIDIA’s NIM microservices and uses NeMo Guardrails to keep AI outputs within each institution’s regulatory limits. The platform is compatible with open Nemotron models and can run on a private cloud, a managed cloud service, or on-premises, a configuration designed to meet data-residency requirements under GDPR in Europe and in regulated markets across Africa.

SBS already has a live deployment. Scottish Building Society in the UK has gone live on the platform running on Amazon Web Services, making it the first financial institution to operate NVIDIA’s full AI stack inside a core banking system, according to the two companies. SBS says the building society is recording roughly 30 to 40 percent faster response times, with outputs that carry the audit trail regulators require.

“Banks want AI they can trust, explain and run wherever their data must live,” SBS Chief Executive Eric Bierry said in the company’s announcement. “By building with NVIDIA, we can give our customers that assurance without compromising on governance.”

SBS positions the platform as a response to slow AI adoption in banking. Citing Accenture research, the company notes that only 34 percent of banks have successfully scaled AI for a core process such as credit decisioning or regulatory reporting, with most institutions still running isolated pilots. The company argues the main obstacle is not willingness but infrastructure: extending a pilot institution-wide requires assembling a governed dataset from dozens of internal systems, a task that has proved difficult for banks using third-party AI tools that require data to leave the institution’s environment.

Because SBS software already handles clients’ core operations, covering lending, digital banking, payments, and regulatory reporting, the AI layer can connect directly to existing data without a separate integration project.

The platform launches with two features: Customer Engagement Intelligence, which gives relationship managers a consolidated pre-meeting view of each client, including likely needs and product fit; and an AI Assistant for Banking Teams, which lets staff in service, compliance, and operations query the bank’s own governed data in real time.

SBS serves more than 1,500 financial institutions across 80 countries, including Santander, Société Générale, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, HSBC, and Nationwide. The platform is now available to the broader client base, with a wider rollout expected in early 2027.
