CaixaBank Unifies AI Strategy Under New Dedicated Division Led by Juan Arandilla #

CaixaBank has created an AI and Data Division, its first dedicated organisational unit for artificial intelligence and data management, as Spain’s largest domestic bank looks to integrate both disciplines more deeply into its operations and customer services.

The new unit will serve as a bridge between CaixaBank’s business and technology teams, coordinating data and AI capabilities that were previously distributed across the organisation. Its scope covers the full lifecycle of AI initiatives, from identifying opportunities and developing solutions to deployment, monitoring, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Juan Arandilla will lead the division, drawing on experience in technological transformation, enterprise architecture and data management in the financial sector. He will report to the Media Area, led by Luis Javier Blas. The division currently has more than 40 staff with specialisms in data governance, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, engineering and transformation.

On the customer side, CaixaBank said the division will focus on more personalised and responsive services, using AI to anticipate needs, refine recommendations and simplify processes. The bank said these applications would be governed by principles of transparency, trust and human supervision.

Internally, the unit is expected to deploy tools that improve access to organisational knowledge, automate administrative tasks and extend advanced analytical capabilities to more employees, freeing staff for higher-value work.

The bank said the unified structure will also improve investment prioritisation and apply a shared security and control framework across all AI and data activity, as EU regulators increase scrutiny of how financial institutions deploy machine-learning models in customer-facing settings.
