Robinhood Brings Hedge-Fund Toolkit to Retail With AI Agents, Weekend Trading and Crypto Perps at HOOD Summit #

Robinhood used its annual HOOD Summit conference in Houston, Texas, on 29 September to announce what it described as its most ambitious product expansion, led by an AI trading agent platform and a range of new instruments aimed at sophisticated active traders.

The centrepiece was Robinhood Agents, an AI-native system built directly into the app that can analyse markets, construct strategies, and execute trades in stocks, options, and crypto on a user’s behalf at any hour. Customers choose an AI model (offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic are among the options) and fund a dedicated agentic account kept separate from their main brokerage balance, which limits the agent’s ability to act beyond its intended scope. The company said more than 150,000 customers had opened agentic accounts since a soft launch in May, with those agents accessing Robinhood’s platform roughly 30 million times per day.

Alongside the core agents product, Robinhood announced Agent Apps, a layer of third-party intelligence that can be plugged into an agent to extend its analytical capabilities, and Loops, a forthcoming feature that will let users set standing instructions so agents can act automatically when predefined market conditions are met, without requiring manual input.

On the market-access side, the brokerage said it plans to launch weekend equity trading covering a selection of US stocks and ETFs, giving retail traders access on Saturdays and Sundays when global events can move prices. The feature is expected in early 2027. Robinhood also said it would bring cryptocurrency perpetual futures, with leverage of up to 10x on bitcoin and ether, to eligible US customers via its Bitstamp integration. That product type has long been available on offshore crypto exchanges but has faced regulatory headwinds domestically.

The company also introduced earnings contracts, binary instruments tied to specific corporate financial results around earnings seasons, and said it would extend options trading hours and offer more intraday margin. A social trading feature called Robinhood Social, which allows verified sharing of positions and strategies, was also previewed.

Robinhood Agents and Agent Apps began rolling out to HOOD Summit attendees on the night of the event. One OpenAI model will be available to users at no charge through the end of 2026, with pricing for additional models expected to be usage-based thereafter. CEO Vlad Tenev described the overall push as an effort to put institutional-grade capabilities directly into the hands of everyday investors.
