Elio Mortgage Exits Stealth With $5.1M to Build an AI-Native Mortgage Brokerage #

New York-based Elio Mortgage has raised $5.1 million in pre-seed funding and operates as a licensed AI-native mortgage brokerage rather than a software vendor. Motive Partners and Social Leverage led the round, with Insight Partners co-founder and managing director Jeff Horing joining as an angel investor, according to the company’s announcement.

Elio was co-founded by Oren Michaely, who has engineering experience from Microsoft and most recently served as Director of AI at Motive Partners, and Arad Lev Ari, whose background spans real estate investing and investment banking at KKR and Deutsche Bank. Michaely serves as CEO.

The company argues that decades of mortgage technology investment have addressed only isolated steps in the origination workflow, leaving loan officers and operations teams to manually stitch together fragmented systems. Elio is building a proprietary agentic platform from within a working mortgage operation, with engineers and loan officers working alongside each other, rather than designing tools in isolation and selling them into the market afterward.

Rather than replacing loan officers, Elio plans to recruit them as it scales its brokerage. The pre-seed capital will fund product development, nationwide expansion of its licensed mortgage operations, and that hiring effort. The company says it aims to reduce the cost of loan origination by automating workflows across multiple stages of the process.

Elio is entering a competitive segment of mortgage fintech. Rival startups include Ralo, which describes itself as the first AI-native mortgage broker and raised $2.9 million in seed funding in June, and Copperlane, which raised $4.1 million in the same month to scale its AI loan officer product Penny. Elio’s distinction is its decision to operate as a licensed mortgage entity rather than a software vendor, a structure its backers appear to see as a differentiator.

Motive Partners, which led the round, is a financial technology specialist. Michaely previously served as Director of AI at the firm, giving it direct familiarity with the founding team before the investment.
