BNP Paribas Signs Five-Year Google Cloud Deal to Deploy AI Agents Across Investment Banking Operations #
BNP Paribas and Google Cloud announced a five-year strategic partnership on September 24, with Corporate and Institutional Banking the first division targeted for agentic AI deployment.
The agreement, disclosed in a joint press release, expands BNP Paribas’ access to Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure, including Gemini models and Gemini Enterprise, Google’s suite of tools for building and deploying AI agents in enterprise settings. The deal extends an existing cloud relationship and is part of the bank’s multi-cloud strategy, subject to its security and data governance controls.
The near-term applications are concentrated in CIB. The bank plans to integrate Gemini models into LLM@CIB, its internal generative AI assistant already available to more than 65,000 employees. Agentic AI workflows are also being scoped for corporate credit memo preparation, a time-intensive part of the lending process, with the longer-term roadmap covering sales, trading, research, and structuring.
Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive of Google Cloud, said the partnership brings together BNP Paribas’ banking expertise with Google Cloud’s infrastructure and Gemini Enterprise to “deploy intelligent agents within platforms across the bank.”
The deal is part of a broader shift by large European banks from experimental AI pilots toward production-grade agentic systems. Embedding AI agents in front-office workflows such as credit analysis requires reliable model performance and compliance controls, given the regulated nature of banking tasks.
