IBM Connects Digital Asset Haven to Swift’s Shared Ledger With ISO 20022 Adapter, Adds On-Premises Beta #
IBM has expanded its Digital Asset Haven platform with two new capabilities for regulated financial institutions: a connection to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger for tokenised deposit transactions and an on-premises deployment option that keeps digital asset operations within a client’s own data centre.
The announcements, made on 24 September, extend a platform IBM originally launched in October 2025 with software-as-a-service and hybrid deployment configurations. Since that launch, banking and payments institutions across multiple continents have begun using the platform, according to the company’s press release.
The Swift integration is delivered through a beta ISO 20022 Messaging Adapter, which allows Digital Asset Haven clients to instruct tokenised deposit transactions on Swift’s permissioned shared ledger using the same standardised payment messaging format institutions already rely on for traditional cross-border payments. Swift completed its network migration to ISO 20022 in November 2025. Banks can explore tokenised money movement without rebuilding compliance workflows or adopting blockchain-specific messaging conventions.
Swift’s ledger, originally announced at Sibos 2025 and built with input from more than 40 financial institutions, reached operational status within nine months of its conception. Seventeen first-mover institutions are currently piloting tokenised deposit transactions on the network. The ledger uses an Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible architecture running on Hyperledger Besu. Swift operates a shared orchestration layer while participating banks retain control of their assets, keys and funding. Final settlement continues to pass through existing systems, including real-time gross settlement infrastructure, correspondent banking arrangements, or other agreed mechanisms, with the innovation layer remaining separate from settlement finality.
IBM Digital Asset Haven clients on the Swift programme have already completed live tests of tokenised deposits through the ledger, the company said.
The second capability, also in beta, is an on-premises deployment of Digital Asset Haven designed to run on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE infrastructure, with no dependency on public cloud services. The option targets institutions with strict data-residency, sovereignty or security requirements. It supports stablecoins and tokenised deposits and is built to accommodate hardware security module integration and cold storage operations. Clients can deploy on compatible IBM infrastructure already in place or add new capacity as required.
Swift connects more than 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets, which extends the potential reach of the ledger adapter for IBM’s regulated-institution clients.
