Tink Co-Founders Emerge From Stealth With Freda, a Bootstrapped Agentic Compliance Platform #

Daniel Kjellén and Fredrik Hedberg, co-founders of Swedish open banking platform Tink, have launched an AI-native compliance startup called Freda.

Kjellén served as CEO of Tink and Hedberg as its CTO. They departed alongside former COO Patrik Göthlin earlier this year. The three founded Tink in 2012; Visa completed its acquisition of the platform for approximately €1.8 billion, one of the largest fintech deals in European history. Francois Tornier has since taken over as head of Visa’s open banking operations.

After posting on LinkedIn that they were “building something new,” the pair emerged from stealth with Freda, which they describe as an agentic operating system for compliance. According to the company, the platform deploys AI agents to help organisations map, design and run compliance programmes across any regulatory framework or domain.

Kjellén said the venture is focused on building “the next generation of AI-driven legal and compliance technology.” Freda positions its agents as context-aware rather than generic, meaning they operate within a customer’s specific compliance programme and policies, not on standardised instructions. Features include automated vendor risk monitoring, incident tracking and access-request management, with agents logging every action for audit purposes.

The startup is fully bootstrapped. According to Swedish business outlet Breakit, cited by Dealroom, the founders have personally invested 30 million Swedish kronor (approximately £2.2 million) into the company.

Freda is based in Stockholm and is hiring for a legal lead, product designers, engineers and a growth and operations associate. Job postings describe a mission to bring “clarity and automation to one of the world’s most complex and underserved domains” and note that the founding team sees AI as having created a “once-in-a-generation opportunity.”

The compliance technology sector has drawn increased investor attention as regulatory requirements expand across financial services, particularly around third-party vendor risk, data governance and AI oversight. Freda’s platform focuses on automating the day-to-day execution of compliance tasks rather than surfacing information for human review.
