Lloyds Banking Group Opens 2026 Launch Innovation Programme to UK Start-Ups and Scale-Ups #

Lloyds Banking Group has opened applications for its 2026 Launch Innovation programme, inviting technology start-ups and scale-ups from across the UK to submit solutions that could be deployed across its financial services business. Applications close on 30 September 2026.

The 12-week programme gives selected founders direct access to specialists within the Group and insight into the needs of the bank’s 28 million retail customers and approximately one million business clients across banking, mortgages, insurance, investments and motor finance. Participants develop and test their solutions against real customer and business challenges. The strongest proposals are considered for a commercial proof-of-concept or a longer-term partnership.

Applicants are asked to address one of four challenge areas. The one confirmed so far is “Simpler home ownership,” focused on helping people find, buy, manage, improve and protect their homes through better data, personalised support and streamlined digital experiences. Lloyds has not publicly confirmed the three remaining themes.

Applications are open to businesses and individuals from any sector, provided they can demonstrate a relevant technological solution, a clear customer benefit and a credible commercial case. Submissions of note may also be reviewed by the Group’s Fintech Investment team, which considers opportunities from seed through to Series B stage and could provide a route to investment beyond the programme.

Paul Wilkinson, Rewards and Launch Innovation Director at Lloyds Banking Group, said navigating a large financial institution can be a significant barrier for early-stage companies. “Launch Innovation gives founders a clear route to our specialists, customer insight and the opportunity to test whether their technology can solve a genuine business challenge,” he said, adding that past participants have gone on to secure investment, customer-facing deployments and longer-term commercial relationships with the Group.

One example is ApTap, a fintech that entered the programme as a bill-switching tool and has since expanded to power an in-app offers marketplace giving Lloyds customers access to discounts within the bank’s mobile application. The programme has previously drawn participants from sectors outside traditional financial services.
