CIB Bank and Visa Offer Free Payment Ring to New Hungarian Current Account Customers #
Hungary’s CIB Bank has made a wearable contactless payment ring the headline offer of a current account acquisition campaign, partnering with Visa and British wearable payments maker RingPay to give qualifying customers a free ring worth around 31,900 forints (roughly €80).
The promotion runs from 15 July to 30 September 2026 and targets customers who open a CIB ECO, ECO Plusz, or ECO For You account and take out a Visa Inspire debit card. Those who meet the conditions receive a voucher for a black RingPay payment ring, an NFC-enabled ceramic wearable that links directly to their new card and works at any contactless terminal without charging.
The technical foundation is Fidesmo’s tokenisation platform, which lets cardholders pair the ring directly to their CIB Visa or Mastercard card through the Fidesmo app or the RingPay smartphone application, bypassing intermediary wallets such as Curve. The platform does not expose real card details during payment; instead, it issues a token specific to the device, following standard contactless security practice.
RingPay is produced by Money Carer Group, a UK social enterprise that originally designed financial management tools for vulnerable adults. The ring runs on passive NFC with no battery and no charging requirement, a design that came out of that constrained environment and has since attracted a wider consumer market.
The campaign draws on market research commissioned by CIB Bank and Visa. According to RingPay’s account of that research, more than half of Hungarians aged 18 to 35 said they would be willing to try a payment ring, and more than a third of those aged 27 to 35 reported already having used some form of wearable payment device. Fodor Dalma, who leads retail transactional products at CIB Bank, said the initiative aims to bring ring payments closer to young adults and take advantage of the openness the data shows. Visa’s Katalin Juhász said the company was pleased to make the solution available to Hungarian consumers alongside CIB.
Hungary ranks among the faster-moving European markets on contactless payments, with high terminal penetration and instant payments infrastructure that supports new payment form factors. CIB Bank has positioned the ring as the headline benefit of the account offer rather than a supplementary perk, a departure from how wearable payment devices are typically introduced in retail banking campaigns.
