TD Bank Group announced changes to its senior leadership team on September 3, with Chief Operating Officer Taylan Turan set to leave the Canadian lender effective September 4, 2026, less than a year after he joined the bank.
Turan was appointed to the COO role in September 2025, having previously served as COO and global head of retail banking at HSBC Holdings. He also held senior positions at Citigroup and Barclays before joining TD. The company said Turan contributed to TD’s transformation agenda, including strengthening operational capabilities and expanding its artificial intelligence initiatives.
“I want to thank Taylan for his partnership and leadership and wish him the very best for the future,” said Raymond Chun, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of TD Bank Group, in a statement released on September 3.
Several additional appointments take effect September 4. Vlad Shpilsky, previously senior executive vice president of global technology and solutions, becomes Group Head of that unit. In the role, Shpilsky will advance TD’s technology and digital agenda, including AI-enabled applications targeting internal operations, resilience, security, and client experience.
Renu Gupta has been named Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer and joins TD’s Senior Executive Team. Gupta, who joined TD in 2020 and most recently served as EVP of Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer at TD Securities, will oversee a consolidated portfolio covering enterprise strategy, corporate development, digital assets, payments, partnerships, and procurement.
Paul Whitehead, already responsible for global client and colleague experience, transformation, enterprise real estate, and marketing, takes on an expanded mandate that adds Global Corporate Affairs and enterprise AI oversight.
Chun described the changes as part of an effort to strengthen accountability and accelerate the bank’s strategic priorities. “These appointments bring critical capabilities together, strengthen accountability, and position us to move faster on the priorities that will define TD’s next chapter of success,” he said.
The changes come as TD continues a broader transformation under Chun’s leadership, with a focus on AI integration across its businesses. TD reported total assets of approximately $2.1 trillion.
