SBI Holdings Invests $270 Million in Indonesia’s Ajaib in Largest Southeast Asia Digital Asset Deal to Date #

Japanese financial services firm SBI Holdings has announced a $270 million strategic investment in Ajaib Group, Indonesia’s multi-asset online investment platform, acquiring an approximately 20% equity stake and designating the Jakarta-based company as an equity-method affiliate.

SBI made the announcement on August 28, confirming that the investment was conducted through a subsidiary. SBI’s own statement did not disclose the investment amount, but Ajaib confirmed the $270 million figure in a LinkedIn post, noting that the deal marks Indonesia’s largest technology funding round since 2022 and pushes Ajaib’s total capital raised since 2019 to more than $500 million, according to The Block.

Ajaib operates a multi-asset platform for retail and institutional clients, offering domestic and international equities, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, crypto assets, stablecoins, commodities, and foreign exchange. The company also runs an over-the-counter stablecoin settlement desk serving corporate and institutional investors in Indonesia. According to The Straits Times, Ajaib counts more than 20 million retail investors among its users, giving it one of the largest retail investing bases in the ASEAN region.

For SBI, the investment is primarily about expanding its digital asset presence in Southeast Asia. The group has identified the Ajaib partnership as a vehicle to distribute JPYSC, its yen-denominated stablecoin, across the region and to develop cross-border blockchain settlement infrastructure. SBI Chairman and President Yoshitaka Kitao cited a broader industry shift, saying in a statement that “in this era of tokenization, the importance of global infrastructure for digital assets is greater than ever.”

The Ajaib deal follows a series of Southeast Asian acquisitions for SBI. The group completed its takeover of Coinhako, a Singapore-licensed crypto exchange, in July 2026, and has also invested in DigiFT, a Singapore-based digital securities platform. Together with its existing SBI VC Trade exchange in Japan and crypto market maker B2C2 in the UK, SBI is assembling what it describes internally as an “SBI APAC Digital Economic Zone,” a network of regulated digital asset venues spanning multiple jurisdictions. Ajaib’s Indonesian user base and institutional OTC capabilities make it a notable addition to that network.
