Bain Capital Leads $74 Million Minority Investment in RQD* Clearing as Firm Eyes Digital Asset Custody and Global Markets #
RQD* Clearing, a New York-based clearing and custody provider, has raised $74 million in a minority growth round led by Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, with ABN AMRO Clearing Bank and Nyca Partners co-investing. The company announced the deal on August 27.
RQD* plans to use the capital to expand into North America, Asia, and the Middle East, invest in its proprietary technology and product capabilities, and build infrastructure for digital asset custody and tokenization.
The firm provides clearing and custody services to broker-dealers, registered investment advisers, and foreign financial institutions accessing U.S. markets in equities, options, ETFs, and mutual funds. Year-to-date figures cited in the announcement show RQD* has processed more than 543 million ledger transactions and cleared approximately 515 million equity transactions, representing nearly $2 trillion in notional value and about 2.43% of the NMS equities market. The firm also cleared nearly 64.8 million options contracts totaling approximately $3.93 trillion in notional value.
CEO Michael Sanocki said the round validates the platform the company has built and called Bain Capital “the ideal partner for our next phase of growth.” Michael Grandfield, a partner at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, pointed to the opportunity in capital markets infrastructure as the sector evolves.
With the deal closed, Bain Capital joins existing investors ABN AMRO Clearing Bank, Nyca Partners, Gentree Fund, and Belvedere Strategic Capital.
