Lunar’s Ex-CEO, CFO and CPO Close Denmark’s Largest Pre-Seed on Record With AI Audit Startup Repodo #

Three co-founders who helped build Danish neobank Lunar into a Nordic challenger with more than one million customers have moved into a different corner of financial services: statutory audit. Ken Villum Klausen, Peter Andreasen and Joachim Strøjer Hansen, Lunar’s former chief executive, chief financial officer and chief product officer respectively, have launched Repodo, an AI-native audit firm, and closed an €8.2 million pre-seed round to fund the venture.

The round, which Sifted describes as the largest pre-seed in Denmark on record, was led by Hedosophia, the London-based firm whose portfolio includes Monzo, Wise and Stripe, and Seed Capital, an early-stage Danish investor that also backed Lunar. A fourth co-founder, professional auditor Anders Houmann, completes the founding team; his licence is what allows Repodo to sign off statutory accounts and operate as a fully authorised audit firm.

Repodo’s core pitch is that audit has yet to be genuinely redesigned around artificial intelligence. Rather than layering automation on top of existing workflows, the startup is building its operating model from scratch, with AI handling the most repetitive and time-intensive elements of an engagement (data collection, transaction analysis, reconciliations and documentation) while qualified auditors retain control over risk assessment, professional judgement and final sign-off.

The company is initially targeting small and medium-sized enterprises in Denmark, a segment that the Big Four accounting firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY and KPMG) have tended to serve with less technological investment than their large corporate clients. Villum Klausen has previously described the friction that SME founders face during an audit as significant, noting that clients are often required to gather receipts, log in to tax authority portals, connect to banking systems and manually assemble documentation before the audit proper can begin. Repodo aims to absorb much of that burden through its platform.

The company has already grown to a team of 20 and has obtained its authorised status in Denmark. Expansion will proceed country by country across Europe, with the team noting that while audit broadly follows the international ISA standards, national differences in revenue thresholds and regulatory requirements mean each market requires localised adaptation. The global audit market is estimated to be worth roughly $74 billion, a scale the founders believe justifies the level of pre-seed capital raised.

Proceeds from the round will be used to develop Repodo’s technology platform further, grow the team and deepen its Danish market presence ahead of the planned European rollout.
