Klarna Restructures European Membership Tiers, Dropping Service Fees and Raising Cashback Rates #

Klarna has restructured its European membership programme, introducing four new tiers that eliminate service fees on pay-later transactions, raise cashback rates, and put the top plan’s stated annual value at up to €6,000, according to a company press release issued Thursday, August 13.

The new lineup runs from €4.99 per month for the entry-level Klarna Everywhere tier to €9.99 for Klarna Plus, €19.99 for Klarna Premium, and €44.99 for Klarna Max. The company says each plan is designed to deliver more in value than it costs.

Under the new structure, Klarna Everywhere members can defer payments at any store without service fees. At Klarna partner stores, the pay-later option is free to all users regardless of membership status, a change the company described as bringing “US-style credit card benefits to Europe.”

Cashback rates increase with each tier from Plus upward. Klarna Max subscribers get access to up to 23 bundled subscriptions, including NordVPN, Livi, foodora, and Voi, alongside existing partners.

The updated plans will roll out over the coming weeks across 11 European markets: Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, with expansion to additional regions planned after that.

Klarna has been expanding beyond buy now, pay later, positioning itself as a full-service digital bank and adding products including a debit card, mobile phone plans, and peer-to-peer payments to its European offering. The company recently reported that daily active users of its app rose 53% over the past year to nine million. Membership revenue and customer retention are central to that strategy, as Klarna and rivals such as Revolut compete to make their apps the primary financial interface for everyday spending.
