American Express Venture Arm Backs Fazeshift, an AI Accounts Receivable Startup Aiming to Expand Into CFO Suite Tools #
American Express’s corporate venture capital arm has taken a stake in Fazeshift, a San Francisco-based startup whose artificial intelligence agents handle end-to-end accounts receivable work on behalf of enterprise finance teams. The deal, announced on August 11, adds Amex Ventures to a company that has raised $22 million in total since its founding.
Fazeshift’s platform automates the manual, repetitive tasks that typically consume finance departments, such as generating invoices, reconciling incoming payments, and managing collections, by deploying AI agents that operate across a company’s existing software stack without displacing it. The approach places the startup among a group of AI-native companies targeting so-called autonomous finance, where AI systems execute operational work while human staff shift toward oversight and strategic roles.
The Amex Ventures investment follows Fazeshift’s $17 million Series A, which closed in May 2026 led by F-Prime Capital, with participation from Google’s early-stage AI fund Gradient, Y Combinator, Wayfinder, Pioneer Fund, and Ritual Capital. That round brought total funding to $22 million, including a $4 million seed led by Gradient in early 2025.
According to the company’s announcement, the fresh capital will be used to accelerate product development and expand Fazeshift’s team as it pushes the platform’s scope beyond accounts receivable. The longer-term goal, CEO and co-founder Caitlin Leksana has said, is to build what the company describes as a “CFO suite built for autonomous finance,” an operating layer that handles core financial operations so that human teams can concentrate on governance and higher-level decisions.
Margaret Lim, Managing Director at Amex Ventures, cited the startup’s pace of product development and its expanding set of agentic capabilities as reasons for the investment, adding that Amex Ventures sees the modernization of finance operations as a significant opportunity. American Express’s venture arm has extensive relationships with corporate finance and treasury teams, a factor that could support Fazeshift’s efforts to scale adoption among larger enterprises.
The financial terms of the Amex Ventures investment were not disclosed.
