Google has launched a conversational AI feature inside Google Pay in India that lets users query their own financial data in natural language rather than scrolling through transaction histories. The feature, called Ask Google Pay, began rolling out on July 29.
Ask Google Pay runs on Google’s Gemini AI models and draws on a user’s Google Pay transaction history and credit report data to answer questions about spending, savings opportunities, and suitable financial products. A user might ask how much they spent on dining in a given month, or what steps could improve their credit score. The assistant responds in plain language with summaries and suggestions rather than raw figures.
The feature accepts both text and voice input and is available in ten Indian languages. Google says the design is meant to make personal finance management accessible beyond English-speaking urban users. The company describes the tool as aimed at financial education rather than regulated advice and says participation is opt-in, with users retaining control over their data.
Ask Google Pay can also explain financial concepts including systematic investment plans, compound interest, and the differences between India’s old and new tax regimes. Google said the feature is intended to improve financial literacy and broaden access to credit information.
Google also announced an expansion of Flex, its app-based digital credit card experience. Originally launched in December 2025 through a partnership with Axis Bank, Flex is now extending to SBI Card, one of India’s largest credit card issuers.
The announcements come as Google looks to reposition Google Pay in India, the world’s largest UPI market, beyond payments. Competing apps have also added generative AI features in recent months.
