Bank of America Acquires UK Cybersecurity Consultancy MDSec in Northern England Expansion #
Bank of America has announced it is acquiring MDSec Consulting Limited, a cybersecurity consultancy based in Macclesfield, England. The deal aims to expand the US bank’s in-house cyber capabilities in the United Kingdom and across its global operations.
MDSec employs around 65 cybersecurity professionals and provides information security services including penetration testing, red team operations and threat research. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
Bank of America already employs more than 1,400 staff in Chester, a short distance from MDSec’s Macclesfield base, and operates one of its global cyber threat operations centres there. The acquisition would add MDSec’s team to that security workforce.
Kris Fador, Bank of America’s Chief Information Security Officer, said the bank had long admired the MDSec team and looked forward to welcoming them as the institution continues to enhance its cybersecurity capabilities in the UK and internationally.
MDSec co-founder Dominic Chell said the firm had always aimed to build world-class security capabilities and push the industry forward. Joining a major global financial institution, he said, would give the company the platform it needed to pursue that ambition at greater scale.
Large banks have increasingly moved to hire specialist cyber talent rather than rely solely on external consultants. MDSec specializes in offensive security, which involves probing systems for weaknesses before attackers can exploit them.
