Standard Chartered taps Barclays veteran Kavita Kulkarni as CTOO for India and South Asia #
Standard Chartered has appointed Kavita Kulkarni as Chief Technology and Operations Officer (CTOO) for India and South Asia, the bank announced on 27 July 2026. She takes up the role with immediate effect and will be based in Mumbai.
Kulkarni joins the India Country Management Team and will be responsible for the bank’s technology and operations strategy across India and South Asia. The bank said she will focus on supporting Standard Chartered’s strategic priorities and delivering what it described as “simpler, faster, and more resilient banking experiences” for clients.
She brings more than 25 years of experience across banking, wealth management, and technology, gained in senior roles in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She joins from Barclays, where she spent six years, most recently as Managing Director and Chief Information Officer for Private Banking and Wealth Management. In that role she oversaw global technology and operations teams and worked to embed artificial intelligence into delivery cycles. Earlier at Barclays she served as head of wealth and private bank technology and operations in India. Before Barclays, she held senior regional positions at Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, and Eight Capital.
PD Singh, CEO for India and South Asia at Standard Chartered, welcomed the appointment, citing Kulkarni’s depth of expertise and track record of global leadership as factors that will support the bank’s growth ambitions in the region.
Standard Chartered has operated in India for more than 165 years. The UK-headquartered bank offers services across corporate and investment banking as well as wealth and retail banking through a branch network across the country.
