One in five UK retailers leave customers exposed to hacking risks, study finds #
Nearly 20% of UK retailers’ websites contain security vulnerabilities that could expose customer data to hacking, according to new research by cybersecurity firm Ethiack. The study found that common weaknesses include misconfigured servers, outdated software, and unpatched web applications, increasing the risk of data breaches and account takeovers in online retail environments
The findings highlight growing cybersecurity challenges for retailers as digital sales and customer data volumes continue to rise. Ethiack warned that attackers are increasingly automating vulnerability discovery, reducing the time between a flaw being introduced and exploited. The research adds pressure on retailers to strengthen security practices, particularly as regulatory scrutiny around data protection and consumer safety increases.
