Mollie to buy GoCardless in €1.1bn deal, creating €3bn European payments group #
Dutch payments firm Mollie has agreed to acquire UK-based GoCardless in a transaction worth €1.1bn, combining two major European fintech players to build a stronger cross-border payments and billing platform. The deal is expected to create a group with a combined enterprise value of about €3bn, significantly scaling Mollie’s footprint across Europe and broadening its product suite beyond card payments into bank-debit and direct-debit rails
The merger will bring together Mollie’s card-processing infrastructure with GoCardless’s expertise in account-to-account (A2A) payments, giving merchants access to a wider range of payment methods and deeper market reach. Executives and investors see the combination as a strategic step in European fintech consolidation, enabling the joint business to compete more effectively with global incumbents on pricing, technology integration, and merchant services.
