FCA launches new Firm Checker tool to help consumers identify unauthorised financial services #
The UK Financial Conduct Authority has introduced Firm Checker, an online tool that allows consumers to verify whether a company is authorised to operate in the UK. The tool is part of the regulator’s broader effort to reduce financial crime, following rising cases of scams involving cloned firms and unauthorised investment schemes. Firm Checker provides a simplified interface on top of the FCA Register, helping users confirm legitimacy before engaging with a provider
The launch supports the FCA’s three-year strategy to protect consumers and strengthen market integrity. Alongside the tool, the regulator is expanding enforcement activity, including issuing more warnings about unauthorised firms and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to remove fraudulent websites. The FCA said Firm Checker is designed to make verification easier and faster, reducing the risk of consumers falling victim to deceptive or high-pressure sales tactics.
