Mastercard joins forces with Tencent to enable cross-border remittances into China #

Mastercard has integrated its global remittance platform, Mastercard Move, with Tencent’s cross-border payment infrastructure, enabling consumers worldwide to send money directly into China through Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay). The connection allows transfers to be delivered either to users’ digital wallets or to their linked bank accounts, offering a streamlined alternative to traditional remittance channels that often rely on multiple intermediaries

The partnership expands access to China for financial institutions, money transfer operators, and digital wallets connected to Mastercard Move, which supports payouts to roughly 10 billion endpoints globally. By combining Mastercard’s global reach with Tencent’s dominant domestic payment ecosystem, the initiative is designed to improve speed, transparency, and cost efficiency for millions of expatriates, international students, and cross-border workers who regularly send funds into China.
