Apple introduces Digital ID in Wallet for secure identity verification #

Apple has unveiled Digital ID, a new feature that allows users to create, store, and present government-issued identification directly in Apple Wallet, according to the company’s official announcement. The system enables users to verify their identity both online and in person, using biometric authentication to confirm ownership without sharing unnecessary personal data

Digital ID will initially launch in select U.S. states in partnership with government agencies and will expand globally in collaboration with regulators and standards bodies. The feature is designed with privacy and security at its core, using on-device processing and end-to-end encryption to ensure that Apple cannot access or track when or where IDs are used

Apple says the new capability will simplify access to services such as airport security, age verification, and digital onboarding, while giving users full control over how their information is shared. The rollout reflects Apple’s growing role in digital identity infrastructure and its broader push to make Wallet a central hub for payments, passes, and personal credentials.
