Stripe pilots face payments with NEC #
Stripe has partnered with NEC Corporation to pilot facial recognition payments, allowing customers to authenticate purchases using biometric scans instead of cards or mobile devices. As reported by Finextra, the demonstration showcases Stripe’s new identity-based payment flow, developed in collaboration with NEC’s world-leading facial recognition technology
The pilot enables consumers to enrol their face once through a Stripe-powered app and then make in-person payments simply by looking at a camera, with transactions processed securely through Stripe’s infrastructure. The system is designed to improve convenience while maintaining strong privacy and compliance standards, including encrypted biometric data storage and user consent protocols
Stripe says facial payments could streamline checkout experiences in retail and hospitality, especially for repeat customers. The collaboration highlights growing interest in biometric commerce, as payment providers explore identity-based solutions to enhance security and reduce friction in physical transactions.
