Citi and U.S. Bank Customers Gain First Access to Mastercard “Agent Pay” Service #
Citi and U.S. Bank are among the first U.S. financial institutions to offer Mastercard’s new Agent Pay feature, which lets customers direct payments through authorized agents rather than paying recipients directly. The service is now live for eligible account holders at both banks, with Mastercard saying Agent Pay is designed to increase flexibility and reach underserved or hard-to-access recipients
Agent Pay uses Mastercard’s agent-based network, which allows users to initiate payments that agents then deliver in cash or credit to recipients. For now, the offering is limited to domestic U.S. transfers, though Mastercard intends to expand capabilities and partner with more banks. According to Mastercard, the move comes amid growing demand for alternative payout methods in markets where digital wallets or bank access may be limited.
