Stripe and Paradigm Launch Tempo: A Neutral Layer-1 Blockchain Built for Stablecoin Payments #

Stripe and crypto investment firm Paradigm have unveiled Tempo, a new standalone, “credibly neutral” Layer-1 blockchain tailored for stablecoin-based financial applications like payroll, remittances, and embedded payments. The project is incubated by Stripe and led by Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang, backed by a full-time team of around 15 people. Tempo enters its private testnet phase this month, with broader launch details yet to be provided

Tempo stands out through its key technical features: it leverages stablecoins as gas fees instead of native tokens, ensures high throughput and low latency, and supports programmable, EVM-compatible smart contracts. Initial design contributions come from an impressive roster of partners including Anthropic, OpenAI, Visa, Deutsche Bank, Revolut, Shopify, and Standard Chartered. The platform is being positioned as a scalable and interoperable infrastructure that bridges traditional financial systems and blockchain-enabled payments.
