Payment infrastructure is moving toward real-time settlement, embedded experiences, and API-first design. We sat down with engineering and product leaders to understand what’s working and what to plan for. In many markets, same-day or next-day settlement is no longer enough; users and merchants expect instant or near-instant confirmation and availability of funds. Payments are increasingly embedded — not a separate step but part of the merchant or platform flow, with clear APIs and contracts, reliability and observability, and UX that feels native to the host product. Product and engineering teams should map their rails, design for failure with retries and idempotency, and think about how checkout or payout flows could live inside another product or platform. We’ll keep publishing interviews and guides on payments, APIs, and fintech product development throughout the year.
